I feel like this is probably a basic question for most of you, but I genuinely don’t know the answer and I’m hoping someone can explain it to me in simple terms. I’ve got a 2015 A6 that’s due for a transmission service, and I’ve been calling around to different garages to get quotes and advice. The thing that’s confusing me is that some places are recommending a transmission flush, while others are saying I should just do a drain and fill. They both sound similar to me, but apparently they’re completely different procedures and one of them is supposedly risky for high mileage transmissions. I’ve been reading online and I’m seeing a lot of conflicting information, which is making it really hard to decide what to do. Some people say that a flush is the only way to get all the old fluid out and that it’s essential for proper maintenance, while others say that flushing a transmission can actually cause problems by dislodging debris that’s settled in the valve body and clogging up the passages. I’ve also read that a drain and fill is safer because it only replaces about half the fluid and doesn’t disturb the internal components as much, but then I wonder if that’s really enough to make a difference. The car has about 80,000 kilometers on it and I don’t think the transmission has ever been serviced, so I’m worried that if I do the wrong thing, I could end up causing more harm than good. I’ve been trying to find a specialist who can give me honest advice and do the service properly, because I know that using the wrong fluid or the wrong procedure can be really bad for these transmissions. I’ve seen some recommendations for expert Audi gearbox maintenance in Musaffah, and I’m thinking of taking it there because they seem to really know what they’re doing with these cars. But before I commit to anything, I want to understand the difference between these two service types and which one is actually better for my specific situation. Is a flush really as dangerous as some people say, or is that just a myth? And is a drain and fill actually effective, or is it just a band-aid solution that doesn’t really do much? I’m hoping someone with actual mechanical experience can weigh in and give me some clarity because I’m honestly feeling pretty confused about the whole thing.
