GuestHey everyone, hoping to get some perspective here. I started getting calls from the Law Offices of Charles “Mike” Michaelis a few days ago about an old debt. They’re leaving voicemails saying it’s urgent and to call back immediately, which has been pretty stressful.
I’m not even 100% sure this debt is actually mine or if they have the right to collect it. I’ve been reading online that you should always ask for a debt validation letter first to make them prove they own the debt and that the amount is correct. Has anyone else dealt with this firm specifically? Did they send you proof without a hassle?
I’m also a little worried about how to handle the calls. They seem pretty aggressive, and I don’t want to say the wrong thing on the phone. I know there are laws about harassment, but I’m not sure what crosses the line. Should I send a cease and desist letter just to get them to stop calling while I figure this out, or would that make things worse?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with them. How did it go? Did you settle, or were you able to get the debt disputed? Just trying to figure out my next step so I don’t mess up my credit or get sued over something that might not even be valid. Thanks for any advice.
